    Professor Philip Robinson

    Professor Philip Robinson is an academic veterinarian teaching and conducting research in veterinary 91ÇÑ×Ó health in the 91ÇÑ×Ó and Keele Veterinary School. He is a RCVS Recognised Specialist in State Veterinary Medicine. After qualifying as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Glasgow, Philip worked as a private practitioner in mixed veterinary practices in Northern Ireland and Scotland, and then spent 12 years as a government veterinary field officer, Official Veterinarian and epidemiologist with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) in Northern Ireland. He is a Diplomate of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in State Veterinary Medicine, and holds the MSc degree in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health (with Distinction) from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London. In 2010 Philip was awarded a NI Civil Service US-UK Fulbright Scholarship at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, where he conducted research on factors affecting diagnostic sample submission to veterinary laboratories. Philip completed his PhD in the Geography Department of Durham University, having researched factors affecting the bovine tuberculosis eradication programme in Northern Ireland. After working as a Senior Lecturer and then Principal Lecturer in Farm Animal Health and Welfare at 91ÇÑ×Ó Adams University, Philip joined the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine as Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Public Health before returning to 91ÇÑ×Ó Adams in 2020, where he was Head of the Department of Animal Health, Behaviour and Welfare until November 2022. His main research interests are in veterinary 91ÇÑ×Ó health, veterinary surveillance, enzootic disease control in livestock, veterinary education, and using qualitative research methodologies at the interface of the natural and social sciences. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of the Acid Fast Club, a society dedicated to mycobacteria research.  He 91ÇÑ×Ós as a Senior Editor of the scientific journal Annals of Applied Biology and is a Past President of the Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (SVEPM). In May 2023 he was appointed Deputy Head of the 91ÇÑ×Ó & Keele Veterinary School.
